Privacy policy

Last updated:

This website is operated by AdsLibrary.org. This policy explains what information it handles when you visit the site and use the Facebook ad downloader. We run the site as an independent project. There are no user accounts, no ad database and no paid plans.

What we collect

We do not ask you to register, log in or pay, so we hold no name, password, payment details or account about you.

When you use the downloader, your browser sends the ad ID or ad library link you paste in. Our server uses only the ad ID and requests that one public ad page from Meta. The server does not follow the web address you gave it and does not use your Facebook account or cookies. The media files are fetched by your browser directly from Meta, so they never pass through our server.

We do not keep the link you paste. The only exception: when an ad is no longer running, we keep its ad ID and a "not available" result for 10 minutes, so we do not ask Meta about the same ad again. This short cache is not part of the request log.

If you email us, we receive your address and the content of your message. We use them only to reply to you and to handle your request.

We do not download, store or resell ad media, and we do not build a database of ads. We do not sell data.

Downloader requests and logs

Each downloader request writes one short log line. The log holds only these 12 items:

  • request ID and time;
  • result code;
  • the status of each step of the lookup with Meta;
  • where the verification cookie came from, and whether it was refreshed;
  • number of media files, and whether an HD version exists;
  • duration;
  • the Cloudflare data center that handled the request;
  • country;
  • device category.

The log never contains the ad ID, your IP address, a hash of your IP address, your browser's User-Agent, any cookie value, media links, the page you came from, or page content. Automatic request logs at the platform level are turned off.

We delete daily totals (request counts, result codes and media counts) once they are more than 90 days old. The cleanup runs the next time the downloader gets a request, so if no requests come in, old totals stay until one does.

Rate limiting

To stop abuse, the downloader limits how often each IP address can use it: 10 requests per 60 seconds and 120 per hour. Our logs and counters do not keep your IP address. They use a hash of the address, salted with a random value that changes every day, and the hash serves only as the name of the counter. The counter is deleted one hour after the last request from that address.

Cookies

Our pages do not set cookies in your browser. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, may set its own technical cookies for security and network purposes.

The verification cookie that Meta issues during a lookup is kept on our server so later lookups can reuse it. It is not sent to your browser.

Visitor statistics

We count visits with Plausible Analytics, running on a server we manage ourselves. It does not use cookies and does not store your IP address. To tell visits apart, it builds an identifier from your IP address and browser that changes every day and is not stored on its own. We only see totals: which pages were viewed, which site you came from, country, browser and device type, and which links leaving the site were clicked.

Hosting and third parties

The site and the downloader run on Cloudflare, our hosting provider. As with any web host, Cloudflare receives your IP address when your browser connects. The downloader log lines described above are written to Cloudflare's platform logs, which Cloudflare keeps for a period set by its own platform settings. We do not write the ad ID, IP address, IP hash, User-Agent, cookies, media links, referring page or page content into those logs.

When you download a file, your browser connects directly to Meta's servers to get the media. In that connection Meta receives the data your browser sends, under Meta's own privacy policy.

Your rights

If you want to ask what personal data we hold about you, correct it or have it deleted, write to legal@adslibrary.org. Apart from emails you send us, we do not keep information that identifies you, as described above. We have no accounts, we do not keep your IP address, the hash used for rate limiting exists only as a counter name and is deleted one hour after your last request, and we do not store ad media. So there is usually no personal data we can give you. We reply to every request.
